The core of the teeth replacement services offered by our Scarsdale dental office is the dental implant. A dental implant is a titanium anchor that our doctor surgically implants directly into the jawbone under the site of the missing tooth. Our doctor will take digital radiographs to pinpoint the exact spot for the implant and to check if there is sufficient bone available at the site to support the implant. After the anchor has been placed our doctor will close the gum and over time, about four to six months, the anchor will bond with the bone essentially becoming a part of it. This forms a very strong and secure root for the new tooth. A second surgery is then performed and a post or attachment is connected to the anchor, which will support a ceramic crown that completes the new tooth and becomes the new chewing surface. Implanted anchors can also be used to secure bridges or dentures by employing a series of implants to attach the dentures that are either permanent or removable.
Our Scarsdale dental office also offers mini implants, which are much smaller and thinner than traditional implants and require minimal surgical intervention to place as well as shorter bonding time. Mini implants are not available for all cases, so our doctor will evaluate if mini implants are an option for each patient. Our practice is excited to be able to offer Same Day Teeth as an option to some patients where the new teeth are placed on the same day as the implant.
