Upper West Side Extractions

Extractions are done in a few different cases. For adolescents getting braces, we may perform extractions Upper West Side in order to make room for the growing teeth and braces that are being put on. Or if the tooth has too much decay, an extraction may be done. Once teeth are removed they cannot grow back. The only replacement for missing teeth is an implant.

Extractions Upper West Side

Cavities are usually a major reason for extractions Upper West Side, as the cavity may have progressed to a state of bad tooth decay. Gum disease and tooth decay make the teeth more susceptible to cavities. Having a teeth cleaning every year is critical to keeping teeth and gums healthy. Brushing and flossing alone is not sufficient for removing plaque and tartar, and even with daily care, cannot get rid of plaque buildup. Tartar needs to be scraped off the teeth because it regenerates daily. Reducing plaque buildup and tooth decay can help to prevent cavities and gum disease as well as the recession of gums. Gum disease stems from the inflammation caused by plaque and tartar. Food gets trapped in between teeth, causing bacteria and sugars to eat away and create a hard substance called plaque and tartar over the tooth. Plaque can cause gingivitis and gum disease, which can decay teeth.

At each dental exam at our offices, a routine checkup is first performed. We’ll check the gums for healthy tissue, making sure the gum around the tooth is clean and tight.  Gingivitis is the most common form of gum disease, but it can be reversed with regular deep cleanings and, if needed, a periodontal cleaning, which gets down below the gumline. Mild forms of gingivitis can be reversed with a simple oral hygiene regimen and regular brushing and flossing. If you need extractions Upper West Side, we will do them quickly so that you’re in and out of our offices.
