Our Astoria dentist is professionally trained to perform dental implant procedures and to reverse tooth loss in patients by giving them a new artificial tooth.
Dental implants replace missing teeth by providing a stable titanium root to place an artificial tooth over. They feel, look and act just like natural teeth. Our Astoria dentist will first surgically place a small titanium post directly into the jawbone. The site of the implant is given a healing time of a few months as the implant fuses with the bone, creating a durable, long lasting foundation. Implants are usually stronger even than a natural root. Implants are valuable because they help to retain the facial structure and to prevent further bone deterioration. After the implant is implanted, the patient will need to eat soft foods for a couple of months as it heals. Once the implant site has healed, we will then place the artificial tooth over it and the patient can go back to eating any food they like without fear.
If you think implants may be right for you, our Astoria dentist will first conduct a thorough exam and ask for your dental and health history. These initial consultations will help us determine if implants are an option for you. Your needs and considerations will be taken into consideration and addressed by our dentist and staff, keeping you in the loop the entire time. Should we find that you are a candidate for dental implants, you will then undergo two surgical procedures. The first is the implantation of the titanium post, and four to six months later, the second will entail placing the new teeth to the implant. The entire procedure takes around six to eight months, with little disruption to the patient’s lifestyle. The procedure is quick, easy and virtually pain free. Many patients are extremely happy with their new implants.
