Astoria Bone Grafting
Astoria bone grafting is necessary when patients do not have enough bone to act as a base for the implant. Sometimes gum or bone may be deteriorated from the missing tooth. We take bone from a donor site and then place it onto the part of the jawbone needed, where it fuses in a biocompatible process. After the bone is fused with the jaw, we can then begin the process of placing the dental implant. Implants are strong and durable, and once they are adhered to the jawbone provide an anchor that will never need a root canal nor filling. They are stronger than the root of natural teeth.
Our Astoria bone grafting procedure can be done during an outpatient procedure at a local hospital and is a painless process. Some healing time will be given, and time for the bone to fuse. Once it is healed we’ll have the patient come back in for an analysis to make sure everything is all set for the implant, which can be done in one day at our offices. After the implant is placed a short healing period is then given again, from two to three months, for the implant to heal. After it is healed we can then place the artificial tooth over it.
